About MELLERUD
MELLERUD CHEMIE GmbH develops and manufactures specialised cleaning and care products for a wide range of use cases. The company with headquarters in Brüggen has around 120 employees and distributes its products throughout Germany via DIY stores and specialist retailers. MELLERUD stands for high-quality and sustainable solutions for various materials and surfaces.
Initial Situation
In MELLERUD's controlling department, analyses previously drew on an existing database and were mostly processed manually. As a result, a standardised and automated provision of KPIs across the entire company was only possible to a limited extent. In addition, data records accumulated over many years, with differing evaluation logics making the transparent use of KPIs more difficult.
Challenges
As part of the project, the task was to systematically transfer existing data to a new BI platform, making it possible to meet future requirements. Particularly challenging aspects included the integration of historical data, the mapping of complex customer and product structures as well as the definition of consistent KPIs. This required clean data modelling as the basis for reliable and comparable analyses.

From BI Strategy to Automated Data Analytics
Clear BI Strategy
Together with dotSource, MELLERUD defined the functional and technical requirements for a central BI platform. The goal was a scalable solution for automated controlling based on Microsoft Fabric.
Up and Running Fast
dotSource initially developed a functional prototype of the new data platform. This allowed the controlling department to start using reports at an early stage and expand them step by step.
Single Source of Truth
The data from the existing SQL database was integrated into Microsoft Fabric automatically. A central data warehouse now ensures consistent, up-to-date data without manual processing.
KPIs at a Glance
MELLERUD leverages Power BI to analyse KPIs such as revenue and sales volume. The reports enable breakdowns by customer, product and product group – along with comparisons with the previous year or month. This creates a transparent basis for management decisions.
In-House BI Knowledge
dotSource provided MELLERUD with targeted support after the rollout, enabling the team to expand the BI platform independently and bring new use cases to life in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
