Business Summary
As a globally renowned brand, Villeroy & Boch provides B2B and B2C customers with an extensive product portfolio spanning its »Bathroom and Wellness« and »Dining and Lifestyle« segments. To ensure continued success, the existing systems had to be consolidated in a future-proof IT architecture, with strategic goals, internal processes and technological requirements addressed holistically.
As a result of the strategy and architecture consulting, Villory & Boch opted for Magnolia as its headless content management system (CMS) and Salesforce Composable Storefront as the decoupled front end. This created a modern and scalable system architecture that seamlessly integrates content and commerce for outstanding customer experiences.

Project Overview
About Villeroy & Boch
The Villeroy & Boch Group is one of the world's leading premium brands in the »Bathroom and Wellness« and »Dining and Lifestyle« segments. Founded in 1748 and headquartered in Mettlach, Germany, the company stands for innovation, design and excellent quality.
With its strong brand portfolio and its two main brands Villeroy & Boch and Ideal Standard, the Group is represented by over 12,000 employees in more than 140 countries worldwide.
Initial Situation
A key step on the long-established company's digital roadmap was to further develop its existing system architecture in a future-proof way. Specifically, one of Villeroy & Boch's goals was to select and implement a new CMS.
In addition, a tailored architectural approach was intended to take account of Villeroy & Boch's strategic goals, internal processes and the specific requirements of its product divisions, extending beyond the field of content management alone.
Challenges
The extensive project aimed to bring together the ceramic manufacturer's various product divisions within a cross-platform architecture.
Moreover, the rigid separation between the informational website and the online shop was no longer fit for purpose and was to be replaced by a modern digital experience platform (DXP), seamlessly integrating content and commerce components in an intutive way.

From Isolated Systems to Unified Platform Architecture
Architecture Analysis
Villeroy & Boch and dotSource worked together to analyse the existing system landscape, focusing on the potential for the harmonisation of software solutions and processes. The central question was how a DXP can be operated efficiently to deliver content to different customer groups in a targeted way.
Consulting for Strategic Vision
Based on the joint analysis, dotSource developed a strategic target vision for Villeroy & Boch using the North Star method. Specific business requirements from various areas of the company were systematically captured and translated into a clear target architecture.
Weighted Scoring Model for CMS Selection
To select a suitable CMS, the dotSource experts opted for a weighted scoring model using a catalogue of criteria and – together with Villeroy & Boch – prioritised specific requirements. On this basis, the decision was made in favour of the Swiss CMS provider Magnolia.
»Move & Improve« Instead of Dead End
As requirements and technologies evolved during the ongoing project, dotSource adopted the »Move & Improve« approach. This made it possible to adapt the chosen path in an agile way and opt for a flexible headless architecture.
Headless Meets Composable Storefront
Villeroy & Boch relies on a headless architecture with the innovative Salesforce Composable Storefront as a decoupled front end. Combined with Magnolia CMS, this resulted in a powerful system landscape that strategically links content and commerce.
Future-Ready System Landscape Powered by Smart Strategy
As a result of extensive system selection and architecture consulting by dotSource, Villeroy & Boch not only selected and implemented a new CMS, but also introduced a modern headless architecture, enabling an agile response to new requirements.
The new technical infrastructure created a consistent online presence for its »Bathroom and Wellness« and »Dining and Lifestyle« segments. The new technical set-up is set to be gradually rolled out across more than 25 countries.
