As a professional e-commerce pioneer and a subsidiary of BAT Agrar GmbH & Co. KG, AgrarOnline GmbH has been shaping agricultural trade in Germany since 2017. About myAGRAR
The myAGRAR online shop, operated by AgrarOnline GmbH with headquarters in Schleswig-Holstein, offers a wide range of products for the agricultural industry, covering everything from seeds, crop protection agents, fertilisers and agricultural technology to workwear.
Initial Situation
The existing B2B online shop was already accessible on mobile devices. However, farmers, a key target audience for myAGRAR, often have little time during their busy working days to place orders via PCs or laptops. That is why the company decided to take the next step towards modern mobile commerce by launching its own mobile app in major app stores, delivering significant added value to customers.
Project Goals
For its own mobile app, myAGRAR aimed for rapid implementation with predictable costs. Seamless usability was also essential – even during agricultural work. The familiar look and feel of the myAGRAR online shop had to be transferred to the app in a way that would feel intuitive to the target audience.
Moreover, smart app development was intended to keep future effort for updates and similar adjustments to a minimum.

Reaching a PoC in Around Three Months
Quick Start with an MVP
To accelerate the launch, dotSource's experts for mobile app development leveraged the »App Entry Solution«, allowing for cost-efficient implementation within a manageable scope. Using the MVP approach, the app's first PoC was delivered in around three months.
Harnessing Platform Strengths
The solution was implemented as a hybrid app for multiple mobile operating systems. This approach made it possible to leverage the strengths of each operating system without requiring platform-specific code for iOS and Android.
Integrating Online Shop and App
The development of the mobile app built on the strengths of the existing online shop based on Adobe Commerce. Status updates are retrieved directly from this platform via an application programming interface. This ensures that users receive real-time notifications on their smartphones whenever their order status changes.
Creating a Tailored Design
The dotSource UX design team developed a style guide for buttons, icons and navigation elements – along with screen designs for the app's splash screen and login process. An intuitive icon bar at the bottom of the screen provides quick access to key app sections such as the shopping cart.
Driving Mobile Commerce Forward
Following the app's soft launch and an evaluation phase, targeted marketing activities are set to be carried out, increasing engagement among myAGRAR customers. In addition, the new myAGRAR app can serve as a prototype for further app solutions across the BAT Agrar Group.
