Saurer: The Starting Point
»Shaping the future of textiles« – Saurer's guiding principle for its yarn production solutions – perfectly captures the company's vision. Fulfilling this vision requires not only the global use of its machines and components, but also the effective monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs). For this purpose, the long-established company leveraged Microsoft Power BI to create a more intuitive and fully automated report.
Saurer's goal was to enhance its reporting based on data from the previously used system, featuring well-structured and filterable dashboards. To achieve this, the company partnered with dotSource to process, model and visualise existing data, enabling employees to analyse sales figures, machine and spindle quantities as well as corresponding order volumes for each location with greater efficiency.
dotSource was responsible for implementing the following project components:
- Deployment of Microsoft Power BI to simplify data and report distribution
- Automated integration of legacy data into Microsoft Power BI
- Development of an enhanced Global Sales Report with maximum usability, providing insights into a wide range of KPIs

Project Successes
Consistent Data from a Unified Source
dotSource advised Saurer on the set-up and rollout of Microsoft Power BI and subsequently implemented all functional requirements. Through automated data integration, information from the legacy system is now seamlessly imported into the BI solution and presented in an engaging, user-specific way. The focus is on analysing and visualising KPIs according to various criteria.
From Individual Insights to the Big Picture
The Power BI Desktop application enables data analytics and report generation from various sources, operating on a single-user basis. Thanks to the new cloud-based Power BI service, collaboration among multiple users is now possible. Building on this foundation, dotSource developed a Global Sales Report that provides Saurer's international sales team with cross-country access to BI features and dashboards.
Intuitive and Seamless Usability
The enhanced Global Sales Report provides a structured overview of KPIs. It allows users to compare actual and target values and gain insights into market share developments. Sales figures can be explored from multiple perspectives – by country, product, sales region or customer segment. Numerous visualisations present KPIs in a compelling and easy-to-digest format. Moreover, the report was designed in line with Saurer's corporate identity to provide a familiar experience for all users.
