Axel Springer SE is a media and technology company that is active in more than 40 countries. The long-established media company with headquarters in Berlin is one of Europe's highest-revenue digital publishers and has more than 16,000 employees worldwide. Its portfolio includes the tabloid BILD, the daily newspaper WELT and Lesershop24, the official online shop for subscriptions to the group's newspapers and magazines.
MIGRATION TO ADOBE COMMERCE
For outstanding reading experiences as well as excellent performance and the highest security standards, a modern software is required. Since the end of support for the existing shop system came closer and Axel Springer was satisfied with the technology it had previously used, the media company opted for a system migration from Magento Enterprise 2.0.18 to the successor product Adobe Commerce 2.3.3 in order to bring its subscription portal Lesershop24 up to date.
FUTURE-PROOF CLOUD SERVICES
Content and its presentation are crucial in the media industry. That is why, as part of the shop migration, the content structure of Lesershop24 was revised and the old page builder was replaced. In addition, the server architecture had to be updated to make it compatible with the modern Adobe Commerce platform.
With the two updates in the core areas of content marketing and hosting, Lesershop24 benefits from a more modern and competitive presence as well as a future-proof cloud services strategy.
ACHIEVING GOALS WITH AGILE METHODS
System migrations are complex processes with many different steps. Agile working methods, as used in this project, helped to prioritise and refine the most important aspects until all goals were achieved. Through regular workshops and discussions between the dotSource experts and Axel Springer, it was possible to quickly incorporate feedback.
We are very happy with the result of this complex project. Our mutual trust, the reliability and professional skills made it possible to overcome the challenges of this major upgrade leap and the uncertainty about its basic feasibility in the first place.
